First Giveaway! Come on, who doesn't like nifty gifties?

I have been toying with the idea of doing some kind of giveaway for a while. The question was "What to do and what hoops should you have to jump through to get it?" {wringing hands menacingly} OH THE POWER! Ehh ehhm, sorry 'bout that.

OK, so here's the prize, with a little explanation first. Have you ever been to a website called Woot? Well, I was introduced to this little gem by my uncle Mike. Anyway, they sometimes sell what is affectionately referred to as a "bag of crap". It is a random bag filled with just about anything imaginable. It could be filled with toys from the dollar store or a plasma TV. Alrighty, so you get the gist of the bag of crap. I would like to reveal...

THE BOX OF AWESOME
{ta daa}

So, this could contain anything. It's gonna be good stuff. {hopefully you'll think so too} It could have something I've made, candy, toys, crafty stuff, books, it might even be tailored for the person who wins. I can tell you with all certainty that it won't be a plasma TV though...sorry. I hope you like it anyway and decide to enter. The rules are as follows...

1. Please announce this giveaway on your blog.

2. Leave me a comment. Each comment is another entry, Limit 5 per person please.

3. Tell me something you would like to find in your very own box of awesome.

4. When you receive your box of awesome, let me know how you like it and feel free to show it
off on your own blog.

Well, there ya go. Maybe this will entice some of you lurkers to come out of hiding. I just love meeting iiinteresting people you know. : )

So, come and get some nifty gifties!

The winner will be announced on Monday. So that would make Sunday the cut-off. :)

Due to the flagrant misuse of the rule #2 by my family, and you know who you are, it has been changed. I am going to cut you off at 5 entries a piece.

What a good idea for a give away! I could totally use a box of awesome.

I love it!! I totally want a Box o' Awesome!! I would like it to contain the 3-d Question Mark as pictures. Barring that, I'd also like some hand-made treats! Or maybe the bottom half of the green Peeps Bunny Lindsay is de-capping in the pic on the sidebar??

Alicia said...

In that box of awesome (you can tell I'm serious with multiple comments) I'd like to find the recipe for something delicious (maybe even multiple recipes) something cute/crafty/homemade, and something tailor made for me...That's not too picky is it?

Alicia said...

By the way, when is the deadline for your give away?

David said...

Heidi - your claim that I haven't promoted your little giveaway on my blog is bo-bo-bo-bogus!!

I just scheduled it to go at 2:16 this afternoon, so that

(A) It wouldn't steal the limelight from Ellysa's Water Polo Prowess mere moments after that was posted, and

(B) I don't want all the thousands of people who will undoubtedly come here from my blog to steal my chances of winning!

(C) GEEZ!! Switch to decaf or something, lady!!

Mike 'n' Cindy Brinkerhoff said...

Aw crap.. I honestly didn't mean to do another gratuitous comment, but I forgot to add this to my last one.

Lisa Christine said...

I mean that you have to be old.

i found you through jan btw, but as soon as i saw your giveaway for a box of awesome, i just HAD to comment cause "there is no charge for awesomeness...or attractiveness" hopefully your household is as big of Kung-Fu Panda fans as mine. in my box there would have to be both awesomeness & attractiveness...i trust your judgement! thanks for the second smile today!

So I guess it might as well be me.

A box of awesome??? Who wouldn't want that?

Terri said...

By the way, I found your blog via your comment on Cake Wrecks. :)

Terri said...

And, since you're giving away a box of awesome, I'm certain I need to post that on my blog: http://clayhillfarm.blogspot.com/. Because it's, well, awesome!

Terri said...

Did I mention that awesome is one of my favorite words? Sometimes I amp up the awesome, by doubling it - "awesomely awesome!" This means something that transcends awesome by a power of ten. Or so.

Terri said...

So, thank you for hosting this, and I'd love to find something handmade if I won the box of awesome! Oh, and I love your blog!

If I had a box of awesome, it would definitely need the peanut butter eggs I've been craving since I saw them at the grocery store. And something-maybe a craft- to keep my demonic little monkey's hands busy.

dani said...

awwww, cool, heidi!!! i love awesomeness:)
love,
dani

David said...

everybody was totally cheating on the comments. that is hilarious! nice job heidi on laying down the law.

Marilyn said...

Leave it to the Brinkherhoff clan to TOTALLY ruin the game for everyone else ;)

I want MY box of awesome to have something yummy in it. Can you tell I'm feeling deprived?

Oh, and my blog announcement is scheduled to post tonight, tonight, tonight!

Marilyn said...

or maybe, something music related.

Marilyn said...

or it could be a movie...I love movies.

Marilyn said...

or maybe you could put in my box of awesome, a good book.

Marilyn said...

no, scratch that last comment...I'd rather have magazines. Like People or Us or something like that. Something where I could catch up on why on earth Rihanna is taking her beating boyfriend back or something that would explain to me why Oprah can't keep the weight off. Something like that, you know?

Awesomely colorful: anything AWESOMELY pink

Awesomely funny: books and movies

Awesomely amazing: things made from the heart.

Yarn Princess said...

Oh, and I think you are an awesome person just for thinking about doing something as awesome as this!

This world needs more like you!

Yarn Princess said...

And I'll post on my blog about the awesome thing you are doing!

http://tanglesoftheyarnprincess.blogspot.com

Yarn Princess said...

Hmmm... now I'm thinking about how I can do something awesome for someone too... my pay it forward surprises might turn into boxes of awesome all their own!

Thank you for more inspiration!

Unknown said...

I saw your post over on Cake Wrecks and thought I should check you out. I have let my blog gather dust, I think it's time to dust it off and try to get more non-relatives in on this!

A box of awesomeness sounds just awesome! :)

Katie said...

As a newbie to the blog family, giveaways, and such... I will try to follow the rules. Please be patient with me.

My box of awesome would contain something you couldn't touch, taste, or smell. In my box of awesome there would be something worth having, dreaming of, and living for. If I were to win a box of awesome, I would love to open all four sides and find the miracle I have been praying for.

Yes, to many this seems farfetched and way out there, but to be honest with you...I want nothing more!
THANKS!

Mike 'n' Cindy Brinkerhoff said...

Hey Marilyn, I was TOTALLY playing by the rules until LISA went and started splitting one sentence across four or ten comments!!

After that, my competitive nature just kicked in, and I was powerless to stop it.

I am a bit dismayed though, that nobody else from my house has chimed in. THAT would seriously raise my odds of getting my hands on some Awesome.

Speaking of Awesome, Hey Heidi! You have AWESOME relatives!! (you know, especially the ones from Fircrest...)

Mike 'n' Cindy Brinkerhoff said...

DANG IT!! I forgot to say something AGAIN! (I swear, I am being completely honest - NOT trying to pad your comment count further)

I wanted to say that much more than See's candies, I would love something handmade by you, than something that I could just go down to the mall and buy.

That would be much more awesome than some mass produced candy stuff. Because YOU, Heidi, are AWESOME.

Lisa Christine said...

Mike...I was just playing smart :)

I am still thinking about awesomeness.

Awesome = your baked chicken. But that would be hard to mail in a box.

Oops...I am supposed to stop commenting.

Brooke said...

Hey Heidi! This is Brooke Burt (now Thames) from high school. I have decided your Box of Awesome giveaway was a good time to come out from lurking status and comment. I've popped into you blog a few times through Don, Lisa, and David's- your girls are adorable. Years ago, in Salt Lake City, I ran into Jeff while he was working at the Red Lion downtown and he told me you two were married- so fun! I'm a flight attendant, and that was the hotel we stayed at for our overnights.

Anyways, my Box of Awesome would contain something homemade, like something my kids could wear or play with and maybe some good recipes. I'm looking to expand our dinner menu options and borrowing ideas from others is the best way to do that. In theory, my B of A would also contain a warm, cheesy, In N' Out burger... impossible, I know.

And finally, I'm only going to enter once, with one comment, because I got an automatic double entry in David's March sweepstakes, and it did me no good... :) So, one entry it is!

Fun idea!

Amy J. said...

You weren't kidding! :) WOW 64 comments! I think this is one of the coolest ideas for a give away!

Amy J. said...

I would like a package...I get so excited to get mail that it doesn't usually matter what is inside!

Amy J. said...

But chocolate is always nice.

Amy J. said...

Money works too.

andrea said...

wow - a box of awesome is simply an inspiring idea

I would find anything to bring a smile to my face prtty dang awesome right now - something cheerful, something bright
a great picture? milk chocolate? something soft? a well loved paperback that I could in turn share?

andrea said...

k - posted on vareharri :)

still thinking how very very cool a box of awesome would be :)

Jenne said...

First of all, I would like to say how in the heck did you get 71 people to comment on your blog. I can't even get my family to comment. You rock girl!
Come and visit me some time when you are in the tri-cities!

Mike 'n' Cindy Brinkerhoff said...

It's pretty simple for Heidi to get 72 comments... You have a contest where you say that you can leave multiple comments, and that they will each count as an entry.

Then you have a sister-in-law who "plays smart" and an uncle with an ever-so-slightly competitive streak, and poof! before ya know it, 70+ comments!

She hasn't even posted in a couple days and the comments are still flowing in!

I'm jealous.

David said...

I think this comment is my third entry, if you want help counting. Good luck keeping track of all this!

Nichole said...

Oh, I'm not picky. I do have a strange liking for Chick-o-sticks, though. I'm a simple girl. Thanks for brightening up my day with the possibility of something AWESOME!

Take care!

KaTrina said...

In my box of awesome I would like to find....

1.) Skippers Clam Chowder (You can't get it here!! and I LOVE it!)

KaTrina said...

2.) See's Candy!! (Also something you can't get down here!)

KaTrina said...

3.) Some sort of scrapbooking awesomeness.

KaTrina said...

4.) I'm addicted to pens, so maybe your favorite kind of pens.

KaTrina said...

5.) Something fun!

...There are my five entries, now to plug you in on my blog!

Em and Ms said...

Whoa, the competition for the box of awesome is getting tough! I better get my 5 entries in there!

Em and Ms said...

My box of awesome could be many things--basically it's just fun to get something in the mail!

Em and Ms said...

More specific? Oh, a fun craft, something yummy, something fun to watch or read, something for my little girl. Really, anything!

I'm saving my last 2 entries for later. Split them up you know? Maybe I'll have a better chance that way.

I don't care what it is, but FYI I have a 2 1/2 year old boy and a 2 1/2 month old girl. So maybe something fun/cute for the kids. Also, I can't eat chocolate, so please don't tempt me if I win. We'll really just be happy to get some mail. Thank you!

andrea said...

I actually stopped for a minute at work today and thought about a box of awesome :)

I still think it's the most amazing idea - I'm going to link my agility blog to it - lots of my agility buddies already are awesome - but a box of awesome would really make their day too!
(though I need it more!)

I can't wait to hear what the person who wins the box of awesome gets - too bad that couldn't be a requirement eh? (I promise if I won I'd take pictures and post about it both on my blog and in your comments!)

andrea said...

hehehe was so excited I posted again on vareharri too (yah kind of by mistake but hey that's ok)

while I posting I got a sad call about a little coma kitten who had rallied and is now having seizures we are putting him to sleep now .. I'm going to organize my own box of awesome for the amazing vet/foster home who has been nursing him around the clock for the last 3 days ... thank you for the idea

LKP said...

Off-the-Chain AWESOME right here! posted about your giveaway on my blog http://therommfamily.blogspot.com/ my husband was reading through the comments with me just now and was reading mike's comment about his competitive nature & being powerless about it, but he was reading it in the voice of Kip from Napolean Dynamite! it was a hoot i have to tell you. now, i don't know mike and mean no disrespect at all, but if you reread it in your mind like that and picture Kip at the computer typing away....? yeah, it's pretty dope-awesome! it'll have you giggling for quite a while. so thanks Mike for being a co-entertainer tonight (and you didn't even know it!)...and thanks again for having the giveaway so that my husband could make me laugh. have the awesomestly-awesome night! =)

In my box of awesome, I would like three muzzles (actually 4, I'll need one for my husband too), and a maid. In my fantasy world, my maid wears a uniform, and she tells me how pretty I am, and thinks I am the greatest mom ever . . . . . .so if you could get on that, and send me my box of awesome asap, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would also like a calorie free Butterfinger, if you could find one :)

Jeanette said...

Oh, look at all your comments. You're very popular. A giveaway sounds very fun.

Jeanette said...

I don't know why I am entering. I never win anyway.

Jeanette said...

BUT, if I were to win, I would love to win a box with Peanut M&Ms.

Jeanette said...

anything would actually be great.

Jeanette said...

Now, I am headed to my blog to post about your giveaway.

Kelly said...

I don't have a blog, or at least there's nothing on it- but I've been meaning to start blogging again. My first entry could be about your giveaway!
1st thing I would like to see? Something I can use as a bribe for my kids I tutor, or for the kids I coach.

Kelly said...

The second thing I would like to see, would be books- any type of books. I love books, especially cookbooks. My mom and I also bond over baking, so cupcake books are good!

Kelly said...

3rd- candy and toys I wouldn't have to use as bribes for my students ans swimmers, and could keep for myself!

Kelly said...

4th- crafts! I suck at crafts, but my mom is awesome, so we bond over it while I try to bring a younger influence to her incredible skill. We love crafts, here.

Kelly said...

5th- I trust you to make it an awesome surprise box of cuteness and fun. I would love to win, just to see what you put inside!

David said...

i believe that this is my fourth comment under this post. four comments. four entries. woo hoo.

Melanee said...

I ran into this blog, through a mutual friend and would love a box of awesomeness. Thanks for the idea!

Melanee said...

I forgot to put what I thought was a box of Awesome was. I would have to say, that I love crafty things. Glitter, glue, paper, ribbon... etc. And unless you could add a book on webpages and design... that is my ultimate wish at the moment!

Melanee said...

Oh... and I have to admit that I completely agree with you on the HBO/Big Love issue.

Tom Hanks is the producer of the show. When he was at Sundance, complaining about the LDS influence, he was planning this episode.

We despise him at our house... so please do not include any of his movies... that would totally take away the power of awesomeness!

David said...

i hope i win the box of awesome!
