This is Halloween, This is Halloween! Part 2

I was so busy during the last two weeks of Halloween. I was sewing costumes, keeping the house clean enough to show, and just plain living life. I didn't get a chance to post pictures of the girls getting their pumpkins. We opted for the picturesque venue of the grocery store this year. We could have gone over to the pumpkin patch, but it's at least twice the price and we've done that enough during the girls childhood that I don't feel that bad depriving them of the experience this year.

I remember getting my pumpkins from a grocery store every year. If we ever went to a pumpkin patch, I don't remember. I just remember loading up in the family car with the brimming excitement that comes with "what kind of pumpkin am I going to choose?". They would have a few pumpkins spread out on pallets, mostly they were in those tall cardboard containers, so you would have to dig.

The earliest pumpkin trip I can remember, was picking out a very perfect, round, smooth pumpkin. My mom told me it looked like Bunsen Honeydew from the Muppet Show. That clinched the decision for me. I insisted on keeping it on top of my dresser in my room. I remember giving it baths and brushing it's pretend hair. I couldn't wait to see the real Bunsen Honeydew face carved into it. I only wished I had a tall skinny pumpkin to be Beaker...meep meep meeee. I liked the idea so much I did it the following year. I even have a picture to go along with it. I'm sure you've seen it over at my mom's blog, but for those that haven't here it is.

Anyways, this was about the girls and their trip. I have pictures of that too. I don't, sadly, have pictures of them carving. We did it on Halloween and I was busy all day making treats and food. I'm also throwing in a picture of Mookie in his costume. We found it at the Dollar Store, we couldn't resist. Don't feel too bad for him, he only had to wear it for a couple of minutes.

We always got our pumpkins at the grocery store growing up, too. I felt like our trip to the pumpkin patch this year was simply for the photo ops, but oh well. :)

Love the cat's costume!

same here. never once have been to the pumpkin patch, well except my own. never really got into that whole deal. i love me some big grocery cardboard boxes to dig through though. the best was heading over to price chopper in the grand torrino & finding the enormous one that was sooooo huge, i couldn't actually "unbend" out of the box. ...course that probably meant that the pumpkin really wasn't THAT huge...i was just little, and...weak. hmmmpfh.
mookie's costume's the bomb! i was thinking that we could make him a whole wardrobe out of coffee filters & some imagination for next year! what do you think about a scarecrow? or the count from sesame street? we could make him bunson (since his head's much much too narrow to ever play beaker)! the possibilities are ENDLESS, ha ha! btw, with did the girls' selection happen to take place at yoke's? just curious. appears that way from the brick. =) and i LOVE that madea got in on the family tradition! LOL! if you look closely she's peering through the window. hilarious! love ya oodles. =)

...okay, and maybe my head's a bit scrambled too. equal-opportunity blaming going on here: bad fingers! bad brain!...

I am ashamed to admit that it has been at least 5 years since we have carved pumpkins. We forgot to do it one year and the kids didn't complain. Shamefull I know. Both cats and kids are dang cute!

We all love Mr Mook in his witch costume.
And not to be a wet blanket but the big tall pumkin in the top left picture wasn't Beeker at all. That was the year I did my first "snooty" pumkin.
I found that pumpkin and from that first sight I saw him as a "snooty, upper crust butler, for an extremely rich and obnoxious family. It took me a while to get his face figured out, but I thought he ended up looking quite snooty indeed. Over the years I have done other snooties but none turned out as well as the original.
I do remember your Beeker as well as your Bunsen Honeydew pumkins but the beeker was much thinner and straighter than my Mr Snooty.

I said I wished I'd had a Beaker pumpkin to go with my Honeydew. I never did have one.

I thought that you meant that the next year you did do a Beeker. And that my Snooty pumpkin was your Beeker. Are you sure you didn't do one some year? I seem to vaguely remember there being one at some point in our family's Halloween career.

I must be depriving my children. We have NEVER carved pumpkins. Wait- *I* have never carved a pumpkin. I'm 36! What a sad life I have had. I will have to put it on my to do list for next year. Maybe a fun FHE activity.

We keep trying to grow pumpkins - they get about the size of a grapefruit and then the bugs eat them! Very frustrating! Like you, we resorted to the store this year!
